Kaleb Felkel; Woman Jumped Into Bed Of Pickup Driver After Shooting Her Boyfriend; Suspect Nabbed

An unidentified woman was with her boyfriend at a mobile home when someone shot him to death.

Authorities said Kaleb Felkel was the murderer and right after, he jumped in his pickup truck and took off.

But he didn’t move fast enough because the girlfriend jumped into the bed of his pickup, hoping to keep him from getting away.

Now, authorities in South Carolina released the 11-minute 911 call she made from there, in the middle of a police chase, last Thursday.

Dispatchers had a hard time understanding the woman due to the wind, but they were able to hear her better when the truck slowed down.

Caller: “Can you hear me?

Dispatcher: “Yes ma’am. Where are you at now?”

Caller: “We’re on the 52. We are passing the Krispy Kreme. And I-95. And we are going. But there is a lot of traffic. And he is driving crazy. He’s trying to get away. I don’t know what he did to my boyfriend. I really don’t.”

Dispatcher: “Stay on the phone, ma’am, with me, OK. We got officers on the way, OK.”

Even without a perfect connection, deputies were able to track her phone and therefore the pickup truck with the murder suspect.

The woman cries and even screams at times.

She explained to dispatchers why she took such a risk.

Caller: “I know I should not have voluntarily hopped on back of the truck. But I couldn’t let him get away with whatever, whatever happened. And I don’t even know what’s going on.”

The woman managed to stay in the bed of the truck even when speeds reached to 75 miles per hour.

Deputies said Felkel led them on a 25-mile chase from Florence County to Darlington County, which ended in a crash and the suspect’s arrest.

She suffered some bruises and cuts, but is overall OK.

Officers praised her for being so brave and doing what she could to help dispatchers and police.

Felkel is now charged with murder.

Last year, he pleaded guilty to assault and battery first-degree in connection with a stabbing. A family member was reportedly the victim.

Felkel was charged with attempted murder, but was allowed to plead to the lesser charge and get credit for the 441 days he’d already served in jail.

This time, he faces more than 20 years in prison.
