Theo Ferrara Death and Obituary, Freeport teenager missing since Thursday
No signs of the missing 14-year-old Freeport boy last seen walking near his home were visible on Monday.
A passing driver saw 16-year-old Theo Ferrara walking along Flying Point Road. After he disappeared, over 50 police officers, game wardens and volunteers searched the area near where he was last seen. Police dogs have also been involved in the search. Additionally, the Maine Marine Patrol has searched the coastline, and wardens in a float plane have buzzed overhead.
Ferrara, a freshman at Freeport High School, has not been found despite numerous signs of her being found. Nearly every telephone pole in the area had a flyer with Ferrara’s picture and the local tip line attached to it.
Ferrara is 5 feet, 7 inches tall, 125 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair. He was last seen wearing a white windbreaker, gray shorts with a green neon stripe, a T-shirt and flip-flops. Ferrara carried a royal blue backpack when last seen.
On Monday, searchers could be seen walking dogs into the wooded Flying Point Road area. The public has been forbidden from entering the L.L. Bean Paddling Center staging area, which is open for police activity. No significant activity was observed at the wooded area on Monday.
The Freeport Police Department urges everyone living in the area to examine their home and trail cameras. They asked that anyone send any footage they have to police, even if it doesn’t show Ferrara. Police said they will continue searching on Tuesday and are specifically interested in videos taken between 4pm and 9pm on Thursday. Chief Nate Goodman mentioned that they are most interested in videos taken during that time period.
He implored anyone with information to contact the hotline at 207-725-5521, option 2 and then 6. Anyone who may have seen someone fitting Ferrara’s description are encouraged to contact the hotline. Additionally, Ferrara requested footage that shows his son or footage that doesn’t show him. This is because he wanted to determine if anyone could prove or disprove Theo’s presence in certain locations.
On Thursday, Lieutenant Dan Menard hoped that someone would provide information that would help them find Theo Ferrara. Two searchers and their K-9 partners finished searching a field off Flying Point Road in Freeport and returned to their vehicle.
Goodman briefly held a news conference on Monday thanking the community for their support. He said tips from the community have helped law enforcement officers determine where Theo may have gone. Last week, Goodman stated that detectives were interviewing Ferrara’s family and friends. However, on Monday, Goodman stated that there was no evidence pointing to a specific reason or event that led to this investigation.
The hours leading up to Ferrara’s disappearance are still an unknown to investigators. They don’t know why he left his home or what state of mind he was in. Ferrara was last seen at Flying Point — an area that connects coastal Freeport to Brunswick through a thick forest interspersed with farmland and upscale homes that overlook the water.
